Dog Training Books I Recommend

Fortunately, there's a wide variety of books available for those of you who wish to learn (or teach!) dog training.  Several really good dog training books are available online for immediate download; all three of the dog training books below offer very solid advice, and usually some bonus products that substantially increase their value.  All of them have at LEAST an 8-week guarantee (unlike a book you buy at the local bookstore) so you can get your money back if they're not helpful.

I feel that Mr. Lafave's book (the last one) is the best dog training book value, unless of course you want the bonuses and/or updates offered with a different book.

Note: None of these books on training your dog delve very deeply into the issue of Puppy Potty Training (although of the three, Dog Training Secrets has more info than the other two).  If that's your main problem right now, I DO recommend one particular potty training book.  Just be sure and add some obedience training later on!

Sit Stay Fetch by Daniel Stevens

Suitable for nearly any dog owner, this is a well organized, easy to read dog training book that covers nearly anything you might want to know, from choosing a puppy to teaching advanced commands.   The bonuses are useful and the upgrade option ($22.95) is well worth the money (you get a video showing you how training is done - very useful for visual learners - and software to help you keep track of essential information.)

Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer by Adam Katz

Not quite as easy to read as the other two, but probably the most comprehensive with very thorough answers.  I liked the way he describes actual situations dog owners have and gives solutions.  This author also expands and updates his dog training book often.  The testimonials are certainly compelling!

This author has come up with a comprehensive, organized and easy to read dog training book - he comes across as someone who's very friendly and who really loves his dog.  Of the three, this one has the most on puppy potty training, but this book ALSO covers training adult dogs and keeping an older dog mentally sharp, which is a welcome addition.
